Dangerous Felon Arrested Following Violent Family
April 07, 2025
At approximately 1:07 a.m. on April 5, 2025, officers from the Anson Police Department responded to a reported family disturbance in the 1200 block of Avenue D in Anson, Texas. The caller advised the Jones County Dispatch Center that a female victim was being held against her will inside a small RV on the property by Billy Douglas, a 49-year-old Anson resident. The caller also reported that the victim had been assaulted.
Upon arrival, officers found Douglas on the property and were immediately concerned due to his history of prior felony convictions, including sexual assault, failure to register as a sex offender, assault causing bodily injury to a family member, aggravated assault on a public servant, resisting arrest causing injury, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, escape from custody, criminal mischief, and theft. These convictions are a matter of public record and were relevant to the officers’ threat assessment.
Douglas appeared to collapse suddenly, prompting officers to administer medical aid and request Emergency Medical Services (EMS) out of concern for a potential drug overdose. When EMS arrived and attempted treatment, MacDouglas became combative and violently resisted EMS personnel and officers. A physical struggle ensued, during which three Anson Police Officers sustained injuries, including a human bite wound, a sprained knee, and various contusions.
Officers requested additional resources, and MacDouglas was eventually restrained using a WRAP soft restraint device. He was transported to the Jones County Jail, where he continued to resist but was booked without further incident.
Douglas was booked on the following charges:
- Three counts of Assault on a Public Servant (Peace Officer) – Texas Penal Code § 22.01(b)(1)
- One count of Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport – Texas Penal Code § 38.03
- One count of Criminal Trespass – Texas Penal Code § 30.05
- One count of Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member – Texas Penal Code § 22.01(a)(1)
- One count of Unlawful Restraint – Texas Penal Code § 20.02
The injured officers were treated at Anson General Hospital and are expected to recover fully.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance, and to the staff at Anson General Hospital for their care and support of our officers.
We remind the public that while Douglas has prior felony convictions, he is presumed innocent of the current charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
